Cloud vs Server (2026)
Unless you are in an area with highly unreliable broadband, new squat practices should default to cloud software.
- Server-based (e.g. SOE Exact): You own the data locally. Requires upfront hardware costs (servers, backups, IT support contracts). Excellent for complex, multi-site reporting if you have the IT infrastructure.
- Cloud-based (e.g. Dentally): Lower upfront cost, monthly subscription. Accessible anywhere (great for remote treatment planning). No local server maintenance required.

The API Ecosystem
Modern marketing requires open APIs. If your PMS cannot easily integrate with your online booking system, Zapier, or CRM (like FollowUp Boss or HubSpot), your Patient Acquisition Cost (PAC) will suffer due to manual data entry errors.
